Power & Timing
High Voltage: Vintage Canister & E-Core Ignition Coils
The Ignition Coil transforms your battery's 12 volts into the 20,000+ volts needed to jump the spark plug gap.
Vintage Specs Matter
-
Oil Filled: Authentic vintage coils are oil-filled for cooling. We stock NORS units that look correct for restorations.
-
Resistor Required? We clearly list if a coil requires an External Ballast Resistor or has an internal resistor. Using the wrong one will burn out your points in minutes!
-
6-Volt & 12-Volt: Hard-to-find 6V coils for early autos and tractors.
The Brain of the Spark: Electronic Ignition Control Modules
In the 1970s, points were replaced by the Ignition Control Module (ICM). If your 70s or 80s classic dies when hot and won't restart until it cools down, your module is likely failing from heat stress.
Factory Correct Modules We stock the correct replacement modules for the "Big Three" systems:
-
Mopar: The famous "Orange Box" (and Chrome/Gold variations) ECU.
-
Ford: The "Duraspark" blue-grommet (and other color) fender-mounted boxes.
-
GM: The 4-pin and 5-pin modules found inside HEI distributors.
-
Quality: Our NOS and NORS units feature heavy-duty potting to resist vibration and heat better than cheap modern clones.
Save Your Points: Ignition Condensers
The Condenser (Capacitor) is the small cylinder next to your points. Its job is to absorb voltage spikes; without it, your points will burn out in minutes and the car won't run.
The "Bad Condenser" Plague Modern reproduction condensers are notorious for failing right out of the box. That is why we stock NOS and NORS USA-Made Condensers.
-
Correct Capacitance: Matched to your coil to prevent metal transfer (pitting) on the points.
-
Reliable: Old-school foil windings that handle heat and vibration.
Spin the Spark: Distributor Rotors
The Distributor Rotor spins thousands of times a minute, distributing high voltage to the cap terminals.
Quality Check
-
Brass Contacts: Avoid cheap rotors with aluminum or steel tips that corrode. Our NOS and NORS rotors feature brass or copper conductors.
-
Tight Fit: A loose rotor causes timing scatter. Ours fit the distributor shaft snugly.
-
Rev Limiting: We stock select "governor" rotors for heavy-duty trucks and high-performance applications.
