Starting System Components
Fix the Grinding: NOS Starter Drives, Solenoids & Brushes
A starter that clicks, grinds, or spins slowly doesn't necessarily belong in the trash. Vintage starters were built to be serviced. At Old Car Parts NW, we supply the NOS (New Old Stock) internal parts to make your starter crank like new.
Critical Wear Components
-
Starter Drives (Bendix): If you hear a high-pitched whine or grinding, the drive gear is slipping. Our NOS Bendix Drives feature hardened steel pinions and heavy-duty springs to engage the flywheel reliably.
-
Solenoids: Fix the "Click-Click" issue with NOS solenoids featuring solid copper contacts that resist arcing.
-
Brushes & Bushings: Restore high-torque cranking speed by replacing worn-out brushes and sloppy bushings.
Wake Up Your Engine: Vintage 6V & 12V Starters
A tired starter turns the engine over slowly, making cold starts a nightmare. At Old Car Parts NW, we stock complete NORS (New Old Replacement Stock) and Remanufactured Starters to give your classic the cranking speed it needs.
6-Volt & 12-Volt Options
-
The 6-Volt Challenge: We carry hard-to-find 6V starters for pre-1955 vehicles. Don't convert if you don't have to—a healthy 6V starter spins fast!
-
High Torque: Upgraded field coils in many of our units provide extra torque for high-compression engines.
-
Direct Fit: Bolt-on units for Ford Flatheads, Chevy Inline-6s, Mopar V8s, and more.
Engage Your Engine: Starter Drives (The Bendix)
The Starter Drive (often called the Bendix) is the gear mechanism that extends to spin your flywheel and retracts once the engine fires. If your starter makes a high-pitched grinding noise or spins freely without turning the engine, the drive gear teeth are stripped or the clutch mechanism has failed.
Types We Stock:
-
Inertia Drives: For older systems (Ford Flathead, early tractors) that rely on rotational speed to engage.
-
Solenoid Actuated: For modern plunger-style starters.
-
Folo-Thru: The specialized drives that prevent premature disengagement.
