The Starter Drive (often called the Bendix) is the gear mechanism that extends to spin your flywheel and retracts once the engine fires. If your starter makes a high-pitched grinding noise or spins freely without turning the engine, the drive gear teeth are stripped or the clutch mechanism has failed.
Types We Stock:
Inertia Drives: For older systems (Ford Flathead, early tractors) that rely on rotational speed to engage.
Solenoid Actuated: For modern plunger-style starters.
Folo-Thru: The specialized drives that prevent premature disengagement.
