Heavy Lifting: Door, Trunk & Overdrive Solenoids

While the starter solenoid gets all the fame, vintage cars used heavy-duty Solenoids for various actuators.

Uses Include:

  • Overdrive Solenoids: The plunger unit mounted on the transmission that engages the Borg-Warner overdrive gear.

  • Trunk Release: Remote trunk poppers found on luxury Cadillacs and Lincolns.

  • Door Poppers: Aftermarket or custom applications.

  • Idle Stop: Solenoids used on carburetors to prevent "dieseling" or run-on.
